ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – A major highway in one Eastern Carolina highway is opened once again after a sinkhole developed this afternoon.
The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office says westbound Highway 258 was shut down because of the sinkhole at the Pony Farm Road intersection.
People heading to Richlands were diverted down N.W. Corridor Boulevard to W.C. Jarman Drive to Burton Park Boulevard to Hines Farm Road back to Highway 258.
Eastbound traffic was down to one lane.
The Department of Transportation says the hole is not weather-related as work being done in the area caused some water intrusion, causing the pavement to settle.
The highway reopened after a temporary fix.
