BERTIE COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – A man was arrested in connection to an argument between two men that turned violent.
On Thursday, deputies with the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office were called to the 200 block of Morning Rd in Windsor about reports of shots fired in the area.
Deputies said that two men were having an argument and one of the men had walked away. While the man left, the other man, later identified as 23-year-old Markie Smith, fired shots from a black Honda Accord.
Deputies responding to the area spotted the vehicle headed north on Woodard Rd. Sgt. Doizer, Sgt. Manning and Dep. Pruett was able to turn around on the vehicle and chase Smith, coming to a stop off Downey Lane near a wooded area.
Immediately deputies were able to detain Smith without further issue.
After a search of the suspect vehicle deputies say they found and secured a loaded handgun with a switch device affixed to the firearm, as well as multiple loaded magazines.
Smith was charged with fleeing elude arrest with a motor vehicle, possessing a weapon of mass destruction, discharging a firearm, driving while license revoked, and carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, among other charges.
Smith was put in the Bertie Martin Regional Jail under a $25,000 secured bond.
