SHERIFF: Work zone speeder caught 41 miles later, three counties away

EDGECOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – It took three counties, but this morning deputies got their man who they say was speeding through an Eastern Carolina work zone.

The chase began on U.S. 64 outside of Rocky Mount in Edgecombe County when deputies spotted the man speeding excessively in the work zone.

It ended 41 miles away near Wendell in Wake County.

William Williams, of Camden, was charged with multiple counts including felony fleeing to elude and speeding in a work zone.

He was jailed on a $20,000 secured bond.

Nash County deputies, Wake County deputies, and the Highway Patrol assisted Edgecombe County in the pursuit.
