MAURY, N.C. (WITN) – The Greene County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a teenager who was shot and killed.
On Sunday, around 12:40 p.m., deputies went to a home on Rory Drive in Maury, for a person that had been shot.
Greene County Sheriff Matt Sasser tells WITN that the victim is a 17-year-old boy.
When they arrived, deputies say they began providing life-saving measures on the boy until EMS arrived and he was pronounced dead.
A WITN reporter was on the scene Sunday afternoon and says the situation was tense as bystanders and the apparent family of the boy were starting to gather. Deputies were seen having to control what appeared to be a fight that also broke out.
Officials say they are not releasing the teenager’s name at this time and that investigators are still trying to determine a clear motive in the case. Sasser contacted the NCSBI to assist with the case.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Greene County Sheriff’s Office at 252-747-3411 or [email protected]. A reward is available for information that leads to an arrest.
