Section of Highway 33 in Pitt County has reopened

GRIMESLAND, N.C. (WITN) – A portion of a busy Eastern Carolina highway that has been closed for several weeks, has now reopened.

According to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, NC Highway 33 near Nutrien in Aurora is now open to traffic.

Crews have been replacing a pipe underneath the highway with a larger one that will better carry water in storms.

Officials encourage drivers to still use caution when crossing the area with the broken pavement, for a permanent repair to this section of road is being scheduled.
