SBI releases name of Duplin County jail inmate found dead

KENANSVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – The State Bureau of Investigation has released more information on the death of an inmate at an Eastern Carolina county jail.

The SBI says Christie Bell was found unconscious in the early morning hours of last Tuesday by staff at the Duplin County jail.

Despite lifesaving measures, the 42-year-old Magnolia woman died at the scene.

The SBI is investigating this jail death, which is standard in these cases.

Court records show Bell was arrested on May 24th for impeding traffic, resisting a public officer, and loitering.

An obituary says Bell is survived by two children and her funeral will be held this Friday.
