Roanoke Rapids man facing attempted murder charge after shooting at maintenance worker

ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. (WITN) – An Eastern Carolina man is behind bars facing an attempted murder charge after police say he shot at a residential complex maintenance worker Tuesday afternoon.

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department says Linwood Miles, 72, is being held without bond and charged with attempted first-degree murder, discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, and carrying a concealed weapon.

Tuesday afternoon around 3 p.m., officers were called to a residential complex on Becker Drive. While on the way, officials say officers were called and told an employee had been shot.

Officers say the disagreement between Miles, of Roanoke Rapids, and the employee escalated. Miles shot at the maintenance worker, barely missing, according to police.

The police department says after a brief struggle, Miles was arrested and searched. Officers say a loaded handgun was found in his front pocket and he appeared to be highly intoxicated.

Miles was given a June 27th court date.
