BEAUFORT, N.C. (WITN) – Tropical Storm Debby is inching closer to eastern Carolina, and restaurants across the area are preparing for the impact.
Around Beaufort, tables and chairs were seen stacked as the town braces for Debby. Ciara Heuser recently moved to the area and says the restaurant she works at will take the storm day by day.
“It’s really unpredictable,” said Heuser. “You don’t really know what’s going to happen. It’s just according to the rainfall, but other than that it’s a guessing game.”
Managers at Front Street Grill at Saltwater, which is also located on Front Street, says that flooding isn’t a big issue for them.
“We are one of the higher restaurants,” said Front Street Grill at Saltwater general manager Shannon Piner. “We don’t worry so much about the flooding inside the building.”
However, when it comes to lots of rain in the area, Piner told WITN their main concern is their docks.
“We worry most about our docks and everything with water coming through our walkway,” said Piner.
Tropical storms are something Piner says she is used to, which is why safety is top priority.
“A lot of the time,” said Piner. “You see cars that are stalled out. People are still trying to be out and about, so you worry about everyone’s safety.”
Officials suggest having a hurricane survival kit, drinks, snacks and not to drive during the storm, and unless absolutely necessary to get out – stay home.
