Public feedback wanted on proposed New Bern downtown parks link

RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) – The North Carolina Department of Transportation is asking for public input on plans to build and extend several proposed trail and greenway projects throughout the state, including a project in New Bern.

According to NCDOT, the Great Trails State Implementation Report identifies priority pedestrian and bicycle natural surface trails and paved greenway projects and the steps to move them forward. The report highlights ten priority projects, including the New Bern Downtown Parks Link, that have the potential for some of the greatest impact and are most ready to move forward.

NCDOT says that the New Bern Downtown Parks Link connects downtown New Bern to several of the City’s major parks.

NCDOT plans to make this route part of the East Coast Greenway’s “complementary route” through NC, serving as an eastern alternative to the spine route through the center of the state.
