Powerball jackpot breaks $1 billion, drawing tonight

RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) -An additional $25 million to Powerball’s jackpot boosts tonight’s take to $1 billion.

The jackpot winner could take home the fifth-largest jackpot in the game’s history. The winner can take the $1 billion as an annuity or $483.8 million in cash.

“Any time one of the big jackpots reaches the billion-dollar mark, it adds an extra level of excitement for players,” said Mark Michalko, executive director of the N.C. Education Lottery. “We are hoping that a lucky North Carolinian can take home that amazing prize tonight. Good luck.”

The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million.
