Portion of Greenville’s West 5th Street closing for next 18 months

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – A second traffic circle is going up on a busy Greenville street.

The city says work will begin today to construct a traffic circle at the West 5th Street and Albemarle Avenue/Elizabeth Street intersection.

West 5th will be closed between Ward and South Pitt streets for the next 18 months.

The work is part of the Greenville BUILD Project, a $42-million upgrade that will build four greenway and sidewalk projects along with three streetscape projects.

The first phase of the project, a traffic circle at the West 5th Street intersection with Tyson Street and West 14th Avenue, will open to traffic today.
