POLICE: Violent crimes involving youth in Greenville rose slightly in 2023

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – Violent crimes involving juveniles rose slightly in 2023, with 32 committed over the course of the year.

This number is only a bit higher than 2022′s total of 28.

Data released by the Greenville Police Department shows violent crimes involving juveniles accounted for about 6% of total violent crimes in the city for the past five years.

While the year-to-year increases are marginal, these types of crimes have been trending up since 2019 when the total was 27.

The most frequent violent crimes involving juveniles in 2023 were simple assault, communicating threats and larceny. However, those are not considered “Part 1″ crimes, which are a classification by the FBI for more violent crimes.

Aggravated assault was the most frequent “Part 1″ crime committed by juveniles in 2023. It happened 18 times in the city last year.
