POLICE: Sex offender accused of touching himself inappropriately near downtown Kinston restaurant

KINSTON, N.C. (WITN) – Police say a convicted sex offender is accused of inappropriately touching himself near a downtown Kinston restaurant and then running towards a park when officers approached him.

Anthony Briggs is charged with indecent exposure, sex offender unlawful on-premises, and resisting a public officer.

Officers say they were called around 7:00 p.m. Tuesday near the Laughing Owl on West North Street because of Briggs. They say the man ran up the street towards Pearson Park where they caught him.

Police say being a sex offender, Briggs cannot be within 300 feet of a park. The 38-year-old man is on the sex offender registry for a 2006 conviction for a sex act with a five-year-old.

Briggs was also charged on three outstanding warrants for possession with the intent to sell/deliver a controlled substance.
