KINSTON, N.C. (WITN) – A driver is facing several charges after police say he swerved to avoid an animal and ended up hitting a man walking along side the road.

Kinston police say it happened around 11:15 p.m. Sunday on Tower Hill Road.

Police say Anthony Belcher ran off the road and hit a 50-year-old man from Dover. The victim ended up at ECU Health Medical Center.

The 50-year-old Belcher, who is from Snow Hill, was charged with exceeding the posted speed, failure to maintain lane control, and driving left of center.

Police say the accident remains under investigation.
