POLICE: Man in Elizabeth City charged after selling a gun to a minor

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WITN) – One man here in the east is behind bars after police say he tried to sell a gun to a minor.

Friday at around 6:00 pm, Elizabeth City Police responded to a man pointing a gun in the 300 Block of East Ehringhaus Street.

When officers arrived, they found three people matching descriptions given to them. Police say they saw one man pass a gun to another person in the group and they were both detained.

Officers later arrested 20-year-old Xavier Brinkley of Elizabeth City. Brinkley was charged with Possession of a stolen firearm, carrying a concealed gun and Selling/Giving a handgun to minor.

Police say they took the minor into custody until he was turned over to his parents.

Brinkley was taken to Albemarle District Jail with no bond. His first court appearance is Monday at 9:30 am.
