POLICE: Man crashes into vehicle with family of four inside during Morehead City chase

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. (WITN) – A family of four is being treated for serious injuries after a police chase involving another man led to a two-vehicle crash at an Eastern Carolina intersection.

Morehead City says that a police officer tried to stop Cody Schulz, 32, of Goldsboro, for driving erratically on Highway 70. Police said that Schulz did not stop and led the officer on a short chase before crashing at the intersection of Highway 70 and Hestron Drive just before 8 p.m. on Sunday.

Police said that a family of four was pulling out of Crystal Coast Plaza and appeared to be making a left turn to head east on Highway 70 on a green light when Schulz ran a red light in his Jeep Grand Cherokee and crashed into them.

We’re told that Nathaniel Leonard, 46, of Morehead City, was driving a Toyota Tacoma, while his wife, Suellen Leonard, 44, was in the passenger side. Their two juvenile children were in the back seat.

Officials said that Nataniel Leonard is in serious condition, his wife is in critical condition, and their two children are stable.

We’re told that Schulz is in fair condition. The man has multiple charges pending that include five felonies, five misdemeanors, and four infractions.
