POLICE: Kinston man charged with DWI after brief chase involving dirt bike

KINSTON, N.C. (WITN) – An Eastern Carolina man is behind bars after police say he led them on a brief chase after almost crashing into a vehicle on a dirt bike.

Kinston police say an off-duty officer reported that he was almost involved in a crash with a dirt bike Tuesday on Herritage Street.

Officers canvassed the area and spotted the driver and dirt bike near Richard Green Apartments, police say.

Police say they attempted a traffic stop when the driver, identified as Randy Murrell, drove off.

After a quick chase, police says the dirt bike crashed on a dirt path near Tiffany Street and Murrell ran off.

He was caught and taken into custody.

The 46-year-old Kinston man has been charged with driving while impaired, felony flee elude and resisting arrest.

He was also issued several motor vehicle violation citations, according to police.

Murrell is being held in the Lenoir County Jail.

Police say no injuries were reported.
