POLICE: Havelock man facing charges after trying to burn house down

HAVELOCK, N.C. (WITN) – A Havelock man is in jail without bond after police say he set his home on fire during a domestic dispute.

Police say they were called to a home on Wormwood Branch Court shortly after 1:00 a.m. Tuesday.

They said they encountered Andrew Wodesky, Sr., and other family members in the home. Wodesky argued with officers and then went onto the back porch where they say he poured fuel on the house and ignited a propane grill that caught the home on fire.

Police said they were able to stop Wodesky and extinguish the fire before it spread throughout the house. No one was injured, according to a news release.

Wodesky was charged with four counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, first-degree arson, resisting public offices, and two counts of assault on a government official.
