WALLACE, N.C. (WITN) – A purr-fect rescue this morning in one Eastern Carolina town where a kitten was pulled from a storm drain.
Wallace police and the Wallace Fire Department were called to Walmart on Highway 41 this morning for a kitten trapped in the
storm drain.
The kitten was perched on a small ledge, just inches from the water.
Wallace Police Chief James Crayton says he held Fire Chief Taylor Johnson’s feet while he lowered himself into the storm drain. Johnson was able to pull the cat out.
“I was holding the legs and the camera. He was holding the cat,” said Crayton, pointing to Johnson.
“Usually we’re known – firemen – for getting cats out of trees,” said Johnson. “But it was my first time getting one out of a storm drain.”
This good deed didn’t stop there.
After the rescue, a woman stopped and asked if she could adopt the kitten. Police recommended that she first take the rescued kitten to a veterinarian to make sure there were no hidden problems with the lucky feline.
