POLICE: Bystander in custody after interfering with arrest in New Bern

NEW BERN, N.C. (WITN) – Police say a bystander was arrested after a physical incident occurred on Saturday in New Bern.

According to the New Bern Police Department, they were executing an arrest warrant for multiple felonies including drug possession and interference with electronic monitoring when the person got involved.

Authorities say the bystander, who was injured as a result of a fall, was treated initially by officers on scene.

The bystander was then taken to the hospital, treated and released, and then charged with resisting, obstructing, and delaying and assault on a law enforcement officer.

New Bern police say they are aware of a video of the incident that is circulating on social media.

The department says they are investigating and have no further comment while the case remains active.
