GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) -A local sheriff’s office in the east is getting a new administration building.
The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office hosted a groundbreaking ceremony Monday morning for the construction of its new administration building.
The 33,000-square-foot headquarters will be located off New Hope road in Greenville.
It’s an addition Sheriff Paula Dance says is a necessity for daily operations.
“For many years even, sheriffs prior to me, we always wanted a place to call our own,” Dance said.
Altogether, more than 130 Pitt County deputies operate out of five different buildings, including their most well-known office at the Pitt County Courthouse. The future headquarters that’ll put all of them under one roof will include several new meeting rooms and even a gym.
Pitt County Manager Janis Gallagher tells WITN that once the project is done, the county commissioners will decide what to do with the five office spaces the sheriff’s office currently operates out of.
Gallagher also says the project is expected to be complete in the summer of 2024.
