Pitt County Schools passes emergency Naloxone use in schools

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – A county school board is calling a special meeting Wednesday morning for a few reasons, including a new policy for the emergency use of a drug commonly used to reverse the effects of an overdose.

The Pitt County Board of Education says a special meeting is being called to order at 8:30 a.m.

Officials say the meeting is happening so the board can approve or deny amendments and policies for the school year. A new policy included is the emergency use of Naloxone. Naloxone is commonly used in a nasal spray form to reverse the effects of an overdose.

Other considerations on the list are the personal report for June 26, 2024, budget amendment #3, and the purchase of 6,500 Chromebooks.

All things on the list passed unanimously with a 7 to 0 vote.

The meeting will also be live-streamed.
