PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – According to officials, a home fire in an Eastern Carolina county closed a portion of a busy highway on Friday morning.

Pitt County Fire Marshal Jay Morris says a house caught fire at 3536 Highway 43 at 5:36 a.m. The fire shut down a section of the highway near MacGregor Downs Road and a Speed Way gas station.

Morris says the road is still closed, with officials putting caution tape up around the house.

Red Oak Fire Department, Bell Arthur Fire Department, Winterville Fire-Rescue-EMS, and Pitt County EMS are all on the scene.
