Pitt County 911 center dealing with provider outage, calls being rerouted

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – A service outage has resulted in 911 calls in Pitt County being rerouted to a different counties communications center.

Pitt County Emergency Management said that the interruption is due to a service outage with provider Brightspeed. Officials say the company is working to restore the outage.

Wilson County 911 will work on the initial processing of calls and transferring of cases to Pitt County 911 until service is restored, the county says.

“It’s important that residents know the County is aware of the service outage and to not be alarmed if their 9-1-1 calls are answered by Wilson County,” says Randy Gentry, Director, Pitt County Emergency Management. “Pitt County emergency services responses to incidents will not be affected by this temporary phone service outage.”
