Pedestrian struck and killed in Onslow County

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – A man died after he was hit by a vehicle while crossing Western Boulevard on Thursday in Jacksonville.

Police say at around 6:47 pm, 67-year-old Craig Overington was wearing dark clothing at an unlit portion of the road when he failed to yield the right of way.

Authorities say at the same time, a 1998 Ford F-150 truck, operated by 25-year-old Antwoin Hilton Jr, also of Jacksonville, was traveling south in the left lane.

Overington was transported to Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune for medical treatment but was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Police say his next of kin has been notified and no charges will be filed.
