Patrol increases due to a shooting near Greenville stadium

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – Police plans to increase presence by the local stadium in the east after a shooting happened during games and practices on nearby fields.

Greenville Police will be increasing patrol after a shooting happened by Guy Smith Stadium on Montclair Drive, Friday evening.

Police responded to a shots-fired call a little after 7 p.m., and left damage to a window of an apartment in the area, according to Kristen Hunter with Greenville Police.

The Greenville Police Department is aware of the games and practices happening on the two nearby fields at the time of the shooting.

Police say no one was injured from the shooting, but residents say the drive-by shooting left many children traumatized.

Hunter says the shooting was not directly related to the activity at the stadium, but the stadium was close to where the shooting happened.

According to Hunter, there will be more patrol in the area as the Greenville Police Department continues to investigate.
