Part of Highway 33 to close for an expected 24 hours this weekend

AURORA, N.C. (WITN) – A section of a busy Eastern Carolina highway will close Friday night for almost an entire day so crews relocate equipment.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation says N.C. 33 near N.C. 306 in Beaufort County will close in both directions tonight at 8 p.m.

The closure is expected to last until 8 p.m. tomorrow. Officials say it will Nutrien crews to relocate heavy mining equipment across N.C. 33.

Signs alerting the public are posted and a detour is in place.

Traffic will be detoured south onto Highway 306 to Grantsboro, Highway 55 to Bayboro, and Bay City Road to Aurora.

Due to the detour, NCDOT advises drivers to plan ahead because the commute will take longer than normal.
