Pamlico Co. deputies arrest four sex offenders after executing search warrants

PAMLICO COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – A sheriff’s office in the east put four men in handcuffs for sex offenses after separate investigations.

The Pamlico County Sheriff’s Office says Keith Hawk, Cody Newman, Joesph Conover, and Deondre Dixon face various charges after investigators conducted several search warrants for sex offenders who failed to follow the North Carolina Sex Offender registry.

Hawk, 58, of Bayboro is charged with failure to register as a sex offender and third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. The sheriff’s office says he was put in the Pamlico County jail under a $350,000 secured bond after a search warrant was executed at his home. Investigators say he was out on bond for a similar previous arrest in January 2024.

Newman, 33, of Oriental, had his residence searched after an ICAC tip, according to officials. He faces two counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and two counts of second-degree exploitation of a minor. He was placed into the Pamlico County jail under a $30,000 secured bond.

Conover, 39, of Oriental, was arrested and charged with failure to register as a sex offender. Investigators say the Conover failed to share online information to the sheriff’s office by law. The sheriff’s office says he was on pre-trial for a felony secret peeping charge. Conover is in the Pamlico County jail under a $100,000 secured bond.

Deputies say Dixon, 22, of Grantsboro, was arrested after investigators got an ICAC tip, which led to the search of his home. He is facing one count of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. The sheriff’s office says Dixon was placed in the Pamlico County jail under a $100,000 secure bond.
