Onslow County deputies called to local precinct after conflict with campaigner

ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – Some tense moments tonight at one Eastern Carolina voting precinct.

Onslow County Sheriff Chris Thomas said deputies were called to the Morton voting precinct at Grants Creek Missionary Baptist Church due to a conflict between a person and poll workers.

The sheriff said no one was injured and that the ballots from that precinct safely made it to the Onslow County Board of Elections to be included in tonight’s vote tally.

A spokesman for the State Board of Elections said after voting ended, a disgruntled campaigner reportedly caused a scene, prompting some poll workers still at the polling place to be concerned.

The state says it happened after voting had ended, so no voters were affected.

No one was arrested and the sheriff said what happened is still under investigation.
