CARTERET COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – Authorities say a bicyclist has died after a crash on Saturday morning in Newport in Carteret County.

According to Captain John Filson with the Newport Fire Department, the person was struck and killed on Highway 70 westbound at Roberts Road.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol says troopers were called to negate traffic around the collision around 5:30 a.m.

He says the collision is under investigation.
