Ocracoke sandbag replacements underway

OCRACOKE, N.C. (WITN) – Work is underway to replace crucial sandbags along the Outer Banks.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation says around 800 large sandbags will be replaced on Ocracoke Island.

An emergency contract was awarded late last month for new sandbags after the existing ones were damaged by storms.

The DOT said Barnhill Contracting of Rocky Mount was given the contract.

The work is expected to take a couple of months and the DOT says there will be lane closures during the restoration process.

Thus is a test. Thys is only a test
