Obituary says Lenoir County woman shot Sunday has died

LENOIR COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – A woman who was critically wounded in a shooting Sunday night in Lenoir County has died.

According to an obituary, Amie Heath passed away Monday at ECU Health Medical Center.

Sheriff Jackie Rogers says the shooting happened at a home on Highway 55 West around 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

He said the 33-year-old woman was involved in a traffic accident at the Lighthouse Food Mart, at Highway 11 and 55, and that those involved followed her to the home on Highway 55 about two miles away where the shooting happened.

The sheriff’s office says those involved in the accident agreed to settle between themselves and exchange money.

Deputies alerted nearby departments and the sheriff said a Kinston police officer spotted the suspect’s vehicle at Skinner’s Bypass. He said a woman and a teen were taken into custody, while there were two small children also in the vehicle.

Shy’mecca Epps, of Kinston, and the 17-year-old boy, were charged with two counts of attempted murder, discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle, and discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle causing serious bodily injury.

There is no word if charges against the two have been upgraded since the victim died.
