North Pitt’s Zamareya Jones breaks school scoring record in win over Washington

BETHEL, N.C. (WITN) – A huge night in Bethel as North Pitt girls basketball star and NC State commit Zamareya Jones broke the school record for career points in their 66-18 win over Washington.

She now has 2,156 points. One more than NyJanique Langley who set the mark in 2018.

To become the highest-scoring athlete in North Pitt history…

“Right now I’m still kind of like shocked. It is not really there yet but it means a lot,” says North Pitt senior Zamareya Jones, “NyJanique had it and passed it down to me. I’m just going to pass it down to somebody else. She passed it down to me and I will pass it to somebody else.”

Jones was to be honored for hitting the 2,000 point milestone back in December after their game. The festivities even bigger with her breaking the school record. The 2,000 point mark means a lot too.

“It felt good. I have been working so hard for it so hitting it felt good,” says Jones, “A lot of people coming up to me even at North Pitt saying they are a big fan of mine so it makes me proud that I am making them a fan.”

Zamareya was nominated for the McDonald’s All-America game this week and hopes to be recognized later this season.

“It means a lot,” says Jones, “I am from a small town Greenville you don’t get a lot of people coming out of here getting McDonald’s All-American so just making my city proud and getting it.”
