GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – Hard work and dedication have paid off for the North Carolina Little League softball team from Pitt County.
“It was really exciting because we have been working for this point like for a long time,” said Emery Peebles North Carolina Little League Softball player.
They defeated Louisiana in the Little League Softball World Series by a score of 1 to 0 to win the championship title.
‘Well at first I was like wait this isn’t real and then I was just like super excited because we won like we’re like the best team in the world,” said Emma Piogreen, North Carolina Little League Softball player.
Not only did the team win the championship title in Greenville in front of a home crowd, they also didn’t allow any other team to score a run throughout the tournament- even with a doubleheader on Sunday.
“We’ve been practicing since May and we knew these two games were coming as we got into the regionals and saw those really good teams we were facing, so we were ready for it mentally and physically we’ve been pushing them at practice,” said Brandon Peebles.
They all celebrated with some friends and family and good food after their big game.
“Well, after we celebrated on the field, we went to Tiebreakers and we had our families and friends there and we just enjoyed the moment,” said Aura Edwards, North Carolina Little League Softball player.
As the girls grew up playing softball together, they are now able to say they were able to win together.
“A lot of these people on this team have known each other since we were like 6. We’ve been playing with each other, so it’s just amazing to be able to do this with a group of people you’ve been with your whole life,” said Brooklyn Medhus, North Carolina Little League Softball player.
This tournament was not all smooth sailing as Tropical Storm Debby hit during the week, so the last half of games had to be played on the ECU softball field.
One coach did say they felt they adjusted well to the field change, but honestly, they were a little sad they couldn’t get the victory at Elm Street Park, where the tournament is normally played.
