North Carolina governor candidate Josh Stein hosting social media town hall

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – North Carolina’s attorney general and governor candidate Josh Stein will hold a social media town hall Thursday afternoon in an Eastern Carolina city.

Officials say Stein hopes to speak with parents, teachers, caregivers, and local leaders on ways to protect children better online.

The attorney general plans to kick off the town hall with an overview of his ongoing work to hold social media platforms accountable.

Last year, Stein and 41 other bipartisan attorney generals sued Meta for allegedly designing their social media platforms to hook children and teenagers and deceiving the public by claiming that these platforms were safe and suitable for young users.

Today’s social media town hall will be held at the Pitt County Community Schools and Recreation in Greenville at 2 p.m.
