North Carolina flu deaths surpass last season’s total

RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) – North Carolina has surpassed last season’s total flu deaths this week.

The Department of Health and Human Services says so far this season, there have been 206 deaths. That compares to 196 for all of last season.

The flu season runs until May.

DHHS says since the last report a week ago, there have been 30 new deaths, all adults.

More than half of the 206 deaths were people 65 and older, 53 between 50 and 64, while there have been seven pediatric deaths from the flu.
