North Carolina flu deaths approach 300

RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) – North Carolina is close to hitting 300 flu deaths, the most deaths in seven years.

Figures out today from the Department of Health and Human Services say last week there was just one new flu death reported, bringing the number to 299 for this season.

Back during the 2017-2018 flu season, the state saw 391 deaths.

Most of the deaths this year have been those 65 years old and older, though DHHS says there have been 14 pediatric deaths this season.
