North Carlolina Region team continues to dominate in Little League Softball World Series

North Carolina took home the win by the end of the fourth inning, 16-0

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – The fight for the championship title at the Little League Softball World Series continued Monday in Greenville, with the North Carolina Region team well in the running after their performance.

It was the World Series game that had hundreds of fans on their feet in Stallings Stadium cheering as the North Carolina Region team faced off against Europe-Africa.

“Everybody’s hyped and excited to be out here and the games are usually super good,” attendee Cayden Davis said.

The crowd’s energy could be felt on the field, something outfielder Emery Peebles said she was thankful for.

“It’s exciting because you know they’re always gonna be here for you and to support you every day,” Peebles said.

Monday, North Carolina got off to an early start, getting three runs in the first inning. Their pace only increased from there, clutching eight more runs by the second inning.

When stepping up to the plate, pitcher and third baseman Brooklyn Medhus said she tries not to get in her own head.

“I just try to do what I can,” Medhus said. “I know that the people behind me can do good too so it relieves a little bit of pressure and I just go out there and try to do the best I can.

North Carolina took home the win by the end of the fourth inning, 16-0.

Taking the win was a special moment, but Head Coach Brad Medhus said some things are even more special.

“Everybody in the lineup contributes,” Medhus said. “That’s probably the biggest thing for me to see success one through twelve, as a coach you really relish those moments.”

As the young athletes get geared up for their next game, Coach Medhus said he hopes the fans are ready to step up to the plate as well, as they play a big role during the tournament.

“Every time we come out here there is a big showing of people a lot of noise, the excitement that builds up when we get any momentum, you can feel it it’s palpable on the field and certainly we feed off that, the girls feed off that,” Medhus said. “It’s really tough to put any measuring device on how much it means to us and we’re just so lucky.”

North Carolina will now have two days off before facing the New England Region on August 8th at 1 p.m.
