Nightly closures begin next week on Royall Avenue in Goldsboro for construction

GOLDSBORO, N.C. (WITN) -A section of Royall Avenue near a bustling intersection in Goldsboro will experience nightly closures throughout this month due to construction activities.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation has started a project to realign the complex intersection of Royall Avenue, Central Heights, and North Berkeley Boulevard (U.S. 13).

Royall Avenue will be closed in both directions daily from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. starting June 10 through June 19.

For this project, contractors will be installing drainage structures on Royall Avenue in the vicinity of the U.S. 70 overpasses.

Drivers are advised to drive with caution and plan alternate routes as the closure will require a detour through North Spence Avenue, Cashwell Drive, and North Berkeley Boulevard.

This construction is part of a $17.3 million project aimed to realign intersections of North Berkeley Boulevard with Central Heights Road and Royall Avenue.

These intersections are divided by railroad tracks and will merge into a single intersection on the track’s north side.

Construction started last summer and is set to be completed by August 2025.
