They say a brush fire is threatening structures and to avoid the area.

CARTERET COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – Over the weekend, a brush fire sparked the evacuation of residents and scorched over 100 acres of land.

As of Sunday, firefighters say no progress has been made in the brush fire in Carteret County.

The latest update from the NC Forest Service, the blaze is 0% contained and burned at least 165 acres.

WITN Meteorologists say rain chances will be scarce until the weekend due to an area of high pressure settled over the Chesapeake. The area of high pressure will suppress cloud cover and afternoon rain chances, which could push the region closer to drought.

The Down East Fire Department shared a post on social media about residents evacuating as of 8 p.m. People are being asked to leave the area in Morris Marina Road and Old Cedar Island Road.

Officials say the brush fire is threatening structures.
