New information released on homicide suspect shot & killed by Elizabeth City police officer

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WITN) – A veteran police officer shot and killed the suspect in a homicide that had happened minutes before.

Elizabeth City police now say Lt. Lamar Battle was on foot patrol on North Poindexter Street and heard multiple gunshots just before 2:00 a.m. Saturday.

Shortly after hearing the shots, Lt. Battle approached Bryan White, 33, of Belvidere, and demanded that he drop his weapon. Police say White didn’t comply and was then shot by the lieutenant.

Police say both White and the shooting victim, Cory Revelle, 39, of Elizabeth City, later died at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center.

A 17-year-old from Perquimans County was also injured on North Poindexter Street that night. The teenager was taken by private vehicle to Sentara Albemarle Medical Center and has since been released from the hospital. Police said they’re still investigating just how the teenager was shot.

Battle is a watch commander for the department’s Patrol Division and is a 16-year veteran of the department.

Elizabeth City police are investigating the shooting death of Revelle, while the SBI is handling the investigation into the death of White by the officer.

Police ask anyone with additional information about either shooting to call them at 252-335-4321.
