New information released about unsolved murder

ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. (WITN) – Sue Miller’s life has seemed to stand still since August 29th, 2022, when her husband, Randy Miller, was murdered in Atlantic Beach. “They took away a wonderful person, ya know, the love of my life. I struggle every day,” said Miller.

Atlantic Beach police say three men were reported breaking into vehicles on West Atlantic Boulevard around 5:30 in the morning. They say one of them stabbed the 65-year-old to death.

“The investigators have worked hundreds of hours and have obtained digital evidence, conducted interviews, and have obtained surveillance,” said SBI assistant special agent Nick Deming.

Now, a year and a half later, FBI technology has identified a new important detail.

“This vehicle that they have identified is a 2013 to 2017 Volkswagen CC. On this reward poster, you can see an example of the vehicle, which we believe to be silver in color,” said Deming.

The car can also be seen in surveillance video driving through the parking lot of the Atlantic Beach police station the night of the murder.

While there is no suspect information right now, these new details could help move the case forward. “Now I’m hoping since they’ve got the right car, maybe now people will say, oh ya, I’ve seen that car, or I’ve seen the person that has driven that car,” said Miller.

Officials are asking anyone with information to call the North Carolina SBI at (919)300-6860. Officials are still offering a reward of up to $55,000 for information that leads to an arrest.

65-year-old Miller was found lying in his driveway and died at the hospital. An autopsy WITN obtained showed Miller was killed by a six-inch deep knife wound that went through the left rib and into his heart.
