WASHINGTON, N.C. (WITN) – There is new information on yesterday’s crash of a business jet at an Eastern Carolina airport.
An employee at the Washington-Warren Airport was injured helping to contain the fire that happened after the jet went off the runway around 5:40 p.m. Sunday. Authorities say the employee was treated and released from the hospital.
“The pilot and co-pilot walked away without a scratch,” said City Manager Jonathan Russell. He said a man and a woman were onboard, and were returning from Dallas, Texas.
The Cessna Citation, built in 2008, is owned by BJR Management, of Goldsboro.
The FAA says the jet veered off the runway when it was landing and caught on fire.
Flightaware.com says the jet had taken off from the Wayne Executive Jetport in Goldsboro for the 15-minute flight to Washington, and had earlier flown from Palm Coast, Florida, and Dallas. The website says the jet began its day that morning at the Washington airport with a flight to Dallas.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the plane crash and typically issues a preliminary accident report in a week or two after the accident.
