New fiber internet coming to over 14,000 homes and businesses in Elizabeth City

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WITN) – One broadband service provider is working to expand fiber internet services to Elizabeth City.

Fybe, a broadband service provider and a subsidiary of Roanoke Cooperative, says the expansion will bring fiber internet to over 14,620 homes and businesses in the city.

Fybe says the new option will bring “Fiber to the Home” technology, which they tell us is less susceptible to weather-related outages and other interference that above-ground traditional cables experience, and that the connections can send data as fast as about 70% of the speed of light and provide broadband connections at speeds of up to 1 Gbps.

“I am excited about the positive impact this partnership will have on Elizabeth City,” said Montre Freeman, Elizabeth City city manager, in a press release. “It’s setting the stage for near limitless possibilities, and we can’t wait to see what’s next. Thank you, Fybe, for helping improve the quality of life of our residents.”

Fybe offers a variety of internet speed options for the community.
