NEW DETAILS: Sunday house fire outside of Greenville cause undetermined

PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – Fire crews are battling a blaze at one Eastern Carolina home Sunday afternoon.

A house at 111 Leon Drive just outside of Greenville caught fire. Fire crews from Simpson Fire Department and Greenville Fire/Rescue responded to the home. A ladder truck helped attack the blaze as flames burned the roof of the home.

Pitt County Fire Marshal Jay Morris says at this time, the cause of the fire is accidental/ undetermined as they continue to investigate.

Morris says the owner of the home lives by himself. The county fire marshal says he got out without injury and has been working with insurance and the Red Cross to find a place to stay.

Neighbors Ali Best and Cristy Brett were preparing their kids for a lake day at Brett’s house. Brett says she lives across the street from the house that caught fire, and Best says she knows the owner of the house.

”We were relieved to know that he was ok but then it was just like oh my gosh as it got worse and worse. it’s scary. Then, you start thinking what if this was my house then it makes it even scarier,” says Best.

WITN has reached out to Simpson Fire Department.
