NEW DETAILS: Police arrest mother driving impaired, 4-year-old daughter in car

KINSTON, N.C. (WITN) – The Kinston Police Department says a woman was arrested Monday morning after she called 911 following a traffic stop.

Kinston police say Brittany Futrell was stopped on Hines Avenue and Vernon Avenue after she called 911 around 5:02 a.m. Officers say she believed someone was after her, but this wasn’t true.

The police department says before Futrell, 34, of Hugo, pulled away from the traffic stop, they put a tire-deflating device under her tire.

After she drove away, officials say officers slowly followed Futrell until she stopped on West Vernon Avenue.

Officers say they arrested Futrell, who was under the influence of drugs, and took her unharmed 4-year-old daughter out of the car.

The Kinston Police Department Victim Specialist and the Lenoir County Department of Social Services are investigating.

Futrell is facing misdemeanor child abuse, flee to elude, obstruction of justice, driving while impaired, and three unrelated orders for arrest were also served.
