NEW DETAILS: More charges brought in DWI crash that killed Williamston mom

BEAUFORT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – State troopers have brought more serious charges against a man who they say killed a mother from Williamston last week.

Izair Jardinez, who also is known as Izair Perez, was originally charged with driving while under the influence.

The Washington man is now facing felony death by vehicle, reckless driving-wanton disregard, no operators license, open container after consume alcohol, and driving left of center, in addition to the DWI charge.

Troopers say Janie James was in her Honda CRV with her 10-year-old daughter when Jardinez’s SUV crossed the center line and struck her vehicle.

The 44-year-old woman died at the scene, while her 10-year-old only suffered minor injuries.

The crash late last Wednesday night closed U.S. 17 near West Bear Grass Road for several hours.

Jardinez’s bond has been set at $750,000.
