New details emerge about fatal Goldsboro crash Monday

GOLDSBORO, N.C. (WITN) – Police are sharing new details following a car crashing into a utility pole Monday evening that left a person dead in Goldsboro.

The Goldsboro Police Department says it happened around 5:45 p.m. at the roundabout intersection of Ash Street and Center Street.

A crash report says a husband and wife from Smithfield were in a 2014 Toyota when it hit a Duke Energy internet utility pole.

Both the driver, Lee Grubb, and the passenger Brenda Grubb were taken to UNC Health Wayne for treatment, according to the report.

At the hospital, officials say Breanda Grubb was declared dead, succumbing to her injuries from the accident.

The driver, Lee Grubb, was cited for exceeding the speed limit and failure to maintain lane control.
