NEW DETAILS: Armed robbery suspect hides in old church building, K9 & gas used to catch him

LENOIR COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office says a suspect is in custody after an armed robbery at a convenience store early Thursday morning.

The sheriff’s office says Marshall Grady, 21, of Kinston, robbed the Speedway at 1608 US Highway 258 South at gunpoint at 2:42 a.m. this morning and left with stolen money.

Officials say Grady broke into the old, abandoned Destiny Ministries Church building on East New Bern Road to hide from law enforcement.

Lenoir County deputies, the sheriff’s office special response team, and the Kinston Police Department surrounded the old church Grady was hiding in and deployed gas and K9 Kang.

The sheriff’s department says Grady was arrested at 7:27 a.m. No one was injured during the arrest.

Grady is facing multiple charges: robbery with a dangerous weapon, second-degree kidnapping, possession of a firearm by a felon, and assault by pointing a gun.

Grady is in the Lenoir County jail under a secured bond.
