New Bern police say welfare check led to drug arrest

NEW BERN, N.C. (WITN) – Early Monday morning, police officers say they arrested a man after a welfare check with a woman.

The New Bern Police Department says Samuel Hill providing drugs in exchange for sexual favors.

This morning just after 4 a.m., officers were called for a welfare check on a woman at 1040 Queen Street.

When officers got to the home, they spoke to the woman and determined her well-being. They say the conversation led to Hill being a suspect.

The police department says they found Hill with 16.7 grams of cocaine in his possession.

Hill was arrested and charged with possession with intent to sell/ deliver a Schedule II substance, and resist, delay, and obstruct.

He was taken to the Craven County jail and given a $25,000 bond.

Officers say his first court appearance is today.
